These are key points to consider for the longevity of both your plants and the oak barrel itself, as without being raised or offering drainage the chances of internal rot increase. Here at Stretton Oak Tubs, the majority of our wooden barrels for sale are cut to order, allowing customers the choice of additional drainage holes (a note must be added to your order and we will do this for you) to prevent future damage and rot! Drainage holes can be drilled either in the base of the planter or in the side of the planter between the bottom two bands. By drilling in the side in hot weather there is a reservoir of water in the base of the planter that the plants can drink from (put some stones in the base to aid drainage and then fill with soil).

To prevent any issues occurring with this make sure you choose the correct plants in accordance with the size of the planter.
